My wife and I celebrated our 10-year wedding anniversary on Friday. It’s really difficult to believe that it’s been 10 years since we got married, but the calendar doesn’t lie.
Our wedding was pretty low key – a short ceremony on the beach with only a few other people present, then a reception at our new home. I think if we had it to do over again we might have found a different beach for the actual ceremony, but we’re still glad that we had the reception at our house. 10 years – wow.
For our anniversary we considered going out to eat at a nice restaurant. But we did that on our anniversary a couple of years ago, eating at David’s in Kennebunkport, and we didn’t enjoy it that much. Last year we had ice cream at the Scoop Deck in Wells, then went to Ogunquit and walked around town, ate at an outside restaurant, walked on the beach, visited the candy shops and got more ice cream at Ben & Jerry’s. That’s more our style.
This year we tried to repeat it by having ice cream at the Scoop Deck and then going to Ogunquit. The problem was, we got there too early, about an hour earlier than last year. Everything is better at dusk and at night. Also, it was really hot. Normally it’s cooler at the beach, but this night was about 85 degrees and very humid.
We walked around town and had a nice walk on the beach with our feet in the cold water. Then we decided to eat outside at a Mexican restaurant, Banditos, because last year they had a big fire going outside and I thought it looked really fun.
Problem was, we got there too early and they don’t light the fire until it’s almost dark. Plus, it was really hot eating outside and by the time we were finished Michelle was ready to get out of the heat and humidity and go home. She even turned down more ice cream, which I’ve never seen her do before.
A date night like this might sound really boring to some people, but we really don’t have the opportunity to go out very often so for us this is like paradise. It’s exactly what we wanted for our anniversary. The heat made it a little less enjoyable this year, but we’ll try again next year.
