Struggling to take a selfie at Wells Beach

By | June 9, 2017

We finally had some warm sunshine yesterday. By noon the temperature was around 80, and after lunch I wanted to go for a walk. I usually walk around my neighborhood, but on such a nice day I decided to go for a walk on the beach.

This was a mistake.

Wells Beach is only a 15-20 minute drive from my house. It’s kind of a rocky beach, but I have great memories of Wells Beach from my childhood and I still go there several times a year.

I parked my car, grabbed my water, and opened the door, prepared for a nice, relaxing walk in the sunshine. What greeted me was a temperature in the 60’s and a very strong wind that made it feel much colder. The wind was so strong that there was a man sitting on stairs behind a cement wall because the wind almost knocked him over. I did see a couple of kites in the air, though, so at least the wind was good for something.

I made it about 100 yards before my healthy, relaxing walk on Wells Beach came to an end. Just too cold for me. I did manage to take a selfie, though. I’m not a selfie guy. I’ve probably taken 3 in my life. As you can probably tell, I should stick with not taking them. I look horrible. But in my defense, the sun was in my eyes and I couldn’t tell if I was taking a photo of myself or of what was in front of me.

Is this thing on?

Normally I wouldn’t use this photo, but I wanted to point out that the cloud formations make it look like very powerful brain waves are coming from my head. I can assure you that’s not what’s happening (I wish!), but it sure looks impressive.

It’s always a good idea to bring a sweatshirt when going to the beach in Maine. It also might be a good idea to bring someone else to take the pictures.
